Barry E J Smith, artist

Born 1943, Sydney. Educated in Melbourne and graduated from the University of Melbourne 1966. Came  to London in 1968 where he lived and worked until 2016. He now lives and works in Brighton, East Sussex.

A journalist and copy editor until he became a freelance illustrator and artist in 1974: published books for children and developed the brand “English Life” (in association with Barbara Wootton) as a range of ceramic products.

Later there was range of open edition cards, prints and other products sold worldwide. His paintings have been exhibited in England, Scotland, France, Sweden, the United States and Australia and exist  in many private collections.

He is currently (2019) exploring abstract and non representational painting along with his lifelong love of drawing, photography and fiddling about.
